Rental FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about instrument rentals.

Have a question about renting an instrument? We've put together answers to the questions we hear most often from students, parents, and directors.

What instruments can I rent?+
We rent the full range of school band and orchestra instruments: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello, and bass. Availability by instrument and size varies by store — call ahead or visit in person.
How much does a rental cost?+
Most student instrument rentals run $25–$45 per month depending on the instrument and plan. Intermediate and step-up instruments may be higher. Visit your local store to see current plan pricing and any available promotions.
Can I buy the instrument after renting?+
Yes — that is what rent-to-own means. A portion of every monthly payment you make accumulates as equity toward buying the instrument at the end of your rental period. The longer you rent, the more equity you build.
What does maintenance and repair coverage include?+
Most plans cover normal wear and accidental damage to the instrument — pad replacements, dents from regular use, key adjustments, and similar repairs. Bring the instrument to any of our stores for service under your plan. Our certified technicians handle all repair work in-house.
Can I return an instrument anytime?+
Yes. Our month-to-month rental plans have no long-term contract. If your student stops playing or needs a different instrument, you can return it anytime. We'll help you arrange the return.
Can I pick up a rental instrument the same day?+
Yes. Visit any Brook Mays or H&H Music store with your student and we can start a rental plan and send you home with an instrument the same day. You can also select BOPIS (buy online, pick up in store) to streamline the process.
Do school rental instruments include repair coverage?+
Most rental plans include maintenance and repair coverage, so normal wear and accidental damage are handled without a separate bill. Ask your store or band director about your plan's coverage.
What if the instrument gets damaged or broken?+
Most rental plans include damage coverage under the maintenance plan. For accidents or damage, bring the instrument to any of our stores and our technicians will assess and repair it. Check your rental agreement for specifics on what's covered.
